Rick DeCarteret will be truly missed
BEDDINGTON - Richard A. DeCarteret, 58, died unexpectedly Feb. 12, 2008, at his home. He was born May 21, 1949, in Lowell, Mass., the son of Virginia (Logan) DeCarteret of Deerfield, N.H., and the late Richard DeCarteret. Mr. DeCarteret was a U.S. veteran serving his country in the Army during the war in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged with rank of specialist. While enlisted within the Army, he was the recipient of a Purple Heart for his heroism for saving his Capt. Robert Short, while on duty and was a recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal with One Silver Star. While living in Beddington, he was the fire chief, town selectman, town fire warden and former dog officer. Mr. DeCarteret was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time with his two grandsons. While hunting, he spent many weeks at hunting camp in Bradley with family and close friends. He shared 37 years of marriage with Sheila (Buckingham) DeCarteret of Beddington. In addition to his wife and mother, family members include his children, Amy Cyr and husband, Steve, of Bangor, Bonnie Wheelden and husband, Timmy, of Bangor, and Lisa Tootill and husband, Shawne, of Cherryfield; two very special grandsons, Mikey and Landon; siblings, Cindy, Pam, Susan and Eric; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by numerous dear friends. Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge, with Pastor Ambrose Rolfe officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Beddington Cemetery, Beddington.
